Requirements
  1. Proof that you received an average monthly income of at least $3,000 during the last year ($5,000 if you bring your family)
  2. A travel medical insurance that covers the applicant for the entire duration of stay
  3. Payed application fee

Other requirements

To be able to extend a visa to a second year, the holder has to spend at least 180 days of the first year in Costa Rica.

You are not allowed to do any paid work or services in Costa Rica.

Visa Rentista was made for people with fixed income. To be able to apply, you should present a bank statement stating that you have $60000 available and that $2,500 will be deposited monthly during 1 year in a Costa Rican account upon the approval of residency.
The residence permit lasts for 2 years, but can be renewed, if the applicant have lived in the country at least 4 months per year.
