How to Check Your NIE Application Status
- There is no universal public online tracker for a non-resident NIE assignment.
- Status is confirmed by whoever filed the application: the extranjería office, the consulate, or your representative.
- For residence-card (TIE) files, the Government Delegations offer an expediente-status service (by NIE or file number; not for EU citizens).
- A non-resident NIE is often issued quickly once documents are submitted.
To check a NIE application, contact the office, consulate or representative that submitted it — there is no public name lookup. What you do depends on how you applied.
If you applied through a representative
Your representative receives the resolution and forwards your NIE certificate by email once issued. They are your single point of contact for status. If you applied with us, you are notified as soon as the document is available — see how the online service works.
If you applied in person or at a consulate
Check with the specific Oficina de Extranjería, police station or consulate that took your application, quoting your appointment and passport details. For a non-resident NIE there is frequently nothing to “track” — the certificate is issued at or shortly after the appointment. See how to apply.
For residence-permit (TIE) files (not a simple NIE)
If your query is about a residence card rather than the NIE number, the Government Delegations (Subdelegaciones del Gobierno, under the Ministerio de Inclusión, Seguridad Social y Migraciones) run an expediente-status service, checkable by your NIE or 15-digit file (expediente) number. It applies to residence/TIE processing, not to a simple non-resident NIE, and is not available to EU citizens.
