Sworn (Jurada) Translation for Your NIE Documents
- A sworn translation (traducción jurada) is an official translation certified by an authorised translator.
- It is done by a traductor jurado recognised by the Spanish authorities.
- Your power of attorney (and other foreign documents) must be sworn-translated into Spanish.
- It carries the translator’s stamp and signature, giving it legal validity.
Spanish authorities require foreign-language documents to be presented in Spanish via a sworn translation. For the remote NIE route, that means your power of attorney must be translated by a traductor jurado.
What makes a translation “sworn”
A sworn translator is officially authorised (in Spain, appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs). Their stamped, signed translation is legally equivalent to the original — an ordinary translation is not accepted.
When it’s needed
- Your power of attorney, after it is apostilled.
- Any other supporting document not already in Spanish.
The apostille is usually translated together with the document so the whole package is in Spanish.
